Beko receives Gold Carbon Literate Organisation accreditation
17th January 2024
We are thrilled to announce Beko has been accredited as a Gold Carbon Literate Organisation, highlighting our company’s dedication towards tackling climate change, reducing our organisational carbon emissions, and our commitment to working towards a lower-carbon future.
Carbon Literacy is defined as, “an awareness of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis,” and revolves around a day’s worth of learning and action on climate change. Beko has received its Gold Carbon Literate Organisation accreditation by maintaining a substantial proportion of our workforce as Carbon Literate and demonstrating our commitment to Carbon Literacy through our organisational behaviour.
Our company’s Carbon Literacy Journey began in January 2022 and the huge benefits of Carbon Literacy education soon became apparent. We understood that on our journey to reduce emissions in a significant way, we needed involvement and support from every person in the business. Our colleagues in Beko have embraced the training and over the space of two years, almost two thirds of our workforce have completed the course, including our Beko Appliance Partners’ Specification Managers. Our dedicated contract supply team are now using their enhanced knowledge to advise on ways in which our products and services can support our partners with their own environmental goals for their new build residential projects, whilst encouraging home owners and residents to live in a more responsible manner.
Teresa Arbuckle, Managing Director of Beko commented, “I am incredibly proud of our company’s recent Gold Carbon Literate Organisation accreditation and the positive change we’ve seen in the company as a result of adopting the training on a wide scale. We understood that on our journey to reduce emissions in a significant way we needed the involvement and support from every person in our business. Beko’s purpose is to inspire sustainable lives in every home, and we will continue to expand our training programmes, sharing knowledge and learning, to create further impact on a wider scale.”
Dave Coleman, Co-Founder and Managing Director of The Carbon Literacy Project, said: “Carbon Literacy is an essential skill, vital to every workplace, community and place of study. It is the foundational knowledge, and a catalyst to empowering people to act on climate. However, Carbon Literacy is only the first step. The actions taken and pledged by learners as part of their Carbon Literacy have an immediate impact within their organisation, however it is the maintenance of these and further actions, supported by Carbon Literate organisational culture, that reaps the greatest reward for both participants and their organisations. By becoming a gold accredited Carbon Literate Organisation, Beko has demonstrated its commitment to genuine low carbon action, environmental and economic impact and the building of a low carbon future for us all.”
